The Uni Munich tries to forecast the coming elections in Germany with a stock market where you can trade with virtual party shares.

For me it seems to be a funny and very interesting way to combine politics with the economy and it could be very helpful to get an overview of the upcomming election.

Member’s shift in “Grand Coalition”

German Chancellor Angela Merkel together with her conservative party have announced their election manifesto, which they hope will secure Merkel’s second win in Federal Elections less than 100 days from today.  On Sunday, June 28th, 2009 the CDU together with its Bavarian allies CSU were promoting their very optimistic program regarding the German economic future.  “We have the power to lead our country out of the crisis, the likes of which the Federal Republic has never seen before. We also have the power to make it stronger than it was before the crisis,” Merkel told reporters. “We can drive the history of Germany, and in a direction that makes sense for people.” Continue reading

Why Socialism is appealing, but not the Socialists

Everyone, beginning from presidents and ending with street sweepers, criticizes the outrageous CEO compensations, loose financial instruments, and credit shortage. In response to current economic recession the socialist ideology reemerges in public and private sectors: banks are being nationalized, CEO wages and benefits are curbed, and colossal spending on social programs are initiated. “Ich kann Kanzler” is a political casting show of the ZDF. The jury including Günther Jauch (Showmaster), Anke Engelke (Comedian) and Henning Scherf (former major of Bremen) try to find new and unused faces for the German Politics.
